HeadShot ImageChristopher Armstrong is the founding principal of Armstrong Development Group.
He started in architecture, spending several years at firms in New York and North Carolina working on private residences, restaurants, commercial interiors, and adaptive reuse projects. That work taught him how buildings actually come together, and it taught him that most of the decisions that determine whether a project serves the people who live in it get made long before anyone picks up a pencil.
So he moved upstream, into development.
Up until starting ADG, Christopher has been leading affordable housing development for a nonprofit in New York City, managing over half a million square feet and nearly half a billion dollars in financing supporting 970 units. He has taken sites through acquisition, carried projects to permanent financing, and repositioned aging assets, working closely with public agencies, lenders, and the communities these buildings serve.
He founded ADG in 2026 because he kept seeing the same gap. Developers hand design to someone else. Architects hand the deal to someone else. The result is housing that works on a spreadsheet or works on paper, but rarely both.
Christopher holds two master's degrees from Columbia University GSAPP, in architecture and in real estate development, and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Outside the work, he's an avid runner and never turns down a project he can do with his hands, currently a 1970's steel bicycle.

We take projects from a site and an idea to a finished building people live in. That means finding the opportunity, running the numbers, assembling the capital, and staying with it through construction and lease-up. The work is built on affordable housing experience in one of the hardest markets in the country, where closing a deal means layering public and private money and keeping every party moving together.

Design is in the work from the start, not bolted on afterward. We ask how a space will be used and how it will feel to be in it while the fundamentals are still being decided. That means better decisions earlier and work that holds up. We design all kinds of things, from buildings to interiors to objects.

Not every idea starts as a deal. Dream is where we work out the ones that are not ready yet, the concepts, the what-ifs, the projects we want to exist before anyone has figured out how to pay for them. Some become real. Some stay on the page and make the next one better. All of it keeps the work pointed at what should get built, not just what can.

ADG works in New York and the Carolinas.
New York City is where the firm's development experience was built, across ground-up construction, preservation, and adaptive reuse, and through the layered public financing that makes affordable housing possible in one of the most complex markets in the country. That remains home base.
North and South Carolina are where the firm is growing. With roots in the region and a market adding people faster than it is adding housing, the Carolinas offer the chance to apply what New York taught us somewhere the need is just as real and the runway is longer. ADG's first Carolina project, a rehabilitation, is currently in predevelopment.
We are actively pursuing opportunities across all three markets.

The purpose is to build what matters and design for all. That means development and design under one roof, with the financial discipline to make a project real and the design judgment to make it worth living in.
